My Best Weekend Ever

This past Saturday was basically the best day of my entire life.  Why, you ask?  Allow me to share with you.

I have been a die-hard Parachute fan ever since I heard their first single, “She Is Love,” nearly a year ago, and I have posted about them approximately 238 times on here already.

On Saturday, I not only got to see the band perform a live acoustic set, but I got to MEET them as well when they visited Borders in Birmingham, MI.

After meeting the band, my friends and I followed them to Pontiac for their second concert of the day.

All The Single Babies

So far this weekend I’ve watched a couple ‘Veronica Mars’ DVDs, and I just got back from seeing ‘Love Happens’ at my local theatre.  It was nothing to write home about, so I figured I would share something better with you.  Of all the things I’ve watched so far this weekend, this has got to be my favorite.

If you enjoy the musical stylings of Beyonce and/or adorable children, this video is for you.

I’ve seen my fair share of “Single Ladies” parodies, including an Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake duo, a disturbing Joe Jonas performance and an overweight man in a too small leotard.  (Stab my eyes, I’m still trying to forget ever having seen that last one…)

Although I’m a huge Samberg fan, this baby wins by a mile in my book.  He’s just so cute!  I dare you to not crack a smile.

Check it out here:

I Love You More Than __________.

“I love you more than sweedish fish and popcorn.”

“I love you more than heart shaped sunglasses and toothpicks.”

“I love you more than you hate sharks.”

All of the above statements come from the website iloveyoumorethanblank.com

It’s kind of like Post Secret, but these messages are supposed to be like a personalized greeting card, and are sure to make you smile.

Holding out for Heroes

As I mentioned last week, one of the reasons I love fall so much is because of the TV shows.

Today is a special day because (drum roll please!) the fourth season of Heroes premieres TONIGHT!

Season four is called “Volume 5:  Redemption,” and kicks off with two brand new episodes at 8 p.m. on NBC.

There are a few new faces joining the regular cast this season, including Claire’s college roommate, a mysterious carnival ringleader and a knife thrower named Edgar.

I’m looking forward to Sylar’s story line the most.  I’m not sure if any other television character has ever creeped me out more than he does, yet I am captivated all the same.

If you’re out of the loop and haven’t seen the previous three seasons, I suggest you sprint to your nearest Blockbuster and rent the DVDs immediately.  The story line is complex enough where it cannot be explained in a few mere words.  It would be like trying to explain the trials and tribulations of Lost to a new viewer.  It just cannot be done.

For now, here’s a sneak peak at season four:

The Fray = Happiness

In my mind, the true test of a musician is whether or not they can give a good live performance.  If only all “musicians” went through this screening process, we could perhaps weed out the Miley Cyruses of the world and save our eardrums from bleeding.

One band that would pass this test with flying colors is The Fray.  I can now personally attest to this after seeing them last night at the Breslin.

I had a primo second row floor seat, and I was so close to those boys that I think I might have all of their facial features permanently burned into my retinas.

They had an incredible energy, played songs from both their second and first albums, and I loved every second of it.

The great thing about being a journalist is that when I take 67 photographs at a concert, I can use the excuse “I’m a journalist, it’s what I do.”  Being able to mask my crazy fan girl self with a semi-legitimate excuse helps me save face after the fact.

Unfortunately, I don’t have enough space to post all of those photos here, but I’ll give you a glimpse at a few…

Falling Into a New Lineup

My top two favorite things about going back to school are new school supplies and new seasons of my favorite TV shows.

I’ve got some of my old favorites to look forward to, like One Tree Hill, Heroes and Ugly Betty, to name a few.

There are also some new ones whose premiere dates have been penciled into my iCal for months.  Among the privileged are Glee, the Jay Leno Show and Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update Thursday.

Glee premiered this past Wednesday and was everything I hoped it would be and more.  I think my iTunes gift card is going to be dwindling with this show, because the music has me hooked already.

The Jay Leno show premieres Monday at 10 p.m. on NBC.  Jerry Seinfeld will be the guest of honor, along with musical performances by Jay Z, Kanye West and Rihanna.

SNL Weekend Update Thursday premieres Thursday at 9:30 p.m. on NBC.  Seth Meyers will reprise his role as host, and Amy Poehler will co-host the first episode.

What fall TV shows are you looking forward to the most??

For now, I leave you with a little taste of Glee, in hopes that you will tune in next Wednesday.
