Book to movie: “One Day” hits theaters this summer

Before you even think about going to your local theater on July 8 to see “One Day,” hit up the library first and read the book.

David Nicholl’s book (of the same name) follows two people, Emma and Dex, over a span of 20 years. Each chapter catches up with the characters every year on the date they met, July 15. If the film is anything like the book, I’ll be blubbering like a baby in public. Yikes.

“One Day” is directed by Lone Scherfig (“An Education”), and Nicholls wrote the screenplay, so I have very high hopes for the film. Anne Hathaway stars as Emma Morley alongside Jim Sturgess as Dexter Mayhew.

Honestly, Hathaway is not who I pictured as Emma in the slightest, but I’m willing to give her a shot.

What is this summer vacation of which you speak?

It has been far too long since I’ve written about anything pop culture-y, and it’s breaking my heart.

This summer I’m working, interning and taking two classes online, all while trying to maintain a social life and keeping up with my blogging responsibilities. Unfortunately, the last bit has fallen to the wayside (thus far).

I promise to do better, though!

I can’t complain too much, I suppose. One good thing about slaving away all summer? I get to purchase these Batman high tops after payday this week:
