Song of the Day: “I Will Keep the Bad Things From You”

To end your St. Patty’s day on a wonderful note, I give you one of the most poetic, beautiful songs out there:

I will keep the bad things from you / I will keep a straight face honey /
You can keep your last name if you want to / I will give you all my money /
I could take a plane right to you / If I could just stop running /
What if all this was true?

Song of the Day: “Holding Out For A Hero”

Ella Mae Bowen’s version of “Holding Out For a Hero” is completely, 100 percent different than Bonnie Tyler’s original, but I also think it’s that much better. I have been obsessively listening to this song on repeat for days on end, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Don’t judge me until you listen for yourself.

Song of the Day: “You’re My Star” by Stereophonics

In the words of R.E.M., this one goes out to the one I love:

Vodpod videos no longer available.

you’re my sunday / make my monday come alive / just like tuesday you’re a new day wakes me up / wednesday’s raining / thursday’s yearning friday nights / then it all ends at the weekend / you’re my star

Song of the day: “Poison & Wine”

Artist: The Civil Wars

Song: “Poison & Wine”

Album: Barton Hollow (2011)

You know when you hear a song for the first time and it’s just so painfully good that you can’t stop listening to it? This is one of those songs.

The Civil Wars is a folk duo composed of Joy Williams and John Paul White (who, by the way, is a dead ringer for Johnny Depp and Jack White’s hypothetical child).

This song comes off of the singer/songwriter-duo’s first full-length album which was released on Feb. 1, 2011.

Do yourself a favor and just listen. Like I said: painfully good.

Video of the day: “Ambling Alp” by Wakey!Wakey!

If you read this blog regularly, you’ve probably caught on that Wakey!Wakey! is my favorite band.

Allow me to further educate you on this Brooklyn group at its finest.

The following video is of the band covering Yeasayer’s “Ambling Alp.” It features a lot more people than just Mike and his band–it’s a huge jam sesh with friends and in a word, it’s amazing.

Check it out for yourself!

Artist of the day: A Rocket To The Moon

I have been listening to the following A Rocket To The Moon songs obsessively lately. As in the song ends and I instantly hit replay. About 25249 times in a row.

Okay, maybe that’s a huge exaggeration, but you get the picture.

A Rocket To The Moon is a band based out of Massachusetts and they’ve toured with the likes of Secondhand Serenade and Cute Is What We Aim For.

The band recently released an EP, “The Rainy Day Sessions,” that features four acoustic tracks from previous albums. This EP is honestly the only reason I started listening to them again lately… I had completely forgotten about them until their latest EP came out on Oct. 10.

The two tracks I’ve chosen to share come from their first full length album, “On Your Side,” which was released in October 2009. The first is easily their most popular, so if you know any of their songs, you’ll know this one.

Track 01: “Like We Used To”

Track 02: “Baby Blue Eyes”
